In all fairness to TV, ALA was still a child molester. I won't lose any sleep over TV dragging him through the mud and beating a dead horse.

Its not as if any of this ruined ALA's life, he already did that to himself when he decided to molest children.

Somehow, I don't think that Z was a child molester, or any kind of obvious sexual deviant, for that matter. I never bought the Arthur Leigh Allen story that Graysmith and -- at one point -- Voight were gung ho over. The partial DNA and lack of handwriting similarities ought to knock him out as a possible suspect.

When I was in Sacramento visiting relatives last summer, I saw the coverage of Dennis Kaufman's stepfather and thought he sounded like a viable character. At least the FBI, et al. appear to be checking it out.

Tom Voight comes across in a dictorial manner, and I am frankly shocked at his foul language toward Dennis. This isn't supposed to be a competition ("My Zodiac is better than yours"). For someone who lived close by and through the terror that Zodiac wielded back in the late sixties and 1970, this is a serious subject.

As far as the claims of Deborah Perez, that is the biggest bunch of hogwash I have ever heard!! What mother in her right mind would let her daughter take trips with the stepfather?? And these "recovered memories" make me laugh. She claimed to have written the letter to Belli to "get help for my father" at the age of barely 7??!!! What kind of fool does she think the American public is... oh wait, that's probably why she thought her story would stick. And she didn't even give the (unmatched) glasses to the SFPD to check out. To my knowledge, she STILL hasn't. That woman has already used up her 15 minutes.

Great site, Dennis!

averyJ, agreed. I don't know which is too far-out: Perez claims of repressed memory, doting step-dad is a crazy killer, etc. or ALA morphed from a convicted child molester (for tapping little rumps while a teacher) living with mom to a brainiac who rubs his hands diabolically together chuckling while taunting the police w/secret codes and is more smarter than Steven Hawkins, DaVinci, Einstein all rolled up in one so as to get away with his schemes, yet, dies poor, alone, and with no estate. If he was that smart, that intelligent, he would have at least been some brains behind international drug smugglers and made a fortune. OKAY, which claims sounds more way-out-of-this world? Wellcome to the right place averyJ!

Yes to all of the above, but you have to admit she was kind of hot in a fatal attraction way. I'm going to miss her, It has been a long time since I've laughed like that.

JCloser, I don't think that the Cable News people at FOX are through with Perez as her claims are just too good to not sensationalize them and Cable News just likes those kind of stories. I was wondering when Cable News would make all the latest Zodiac cases developments put out there for the world to see. SO, you just might see Fatal Attraction Perez, again. Obviously, I am a Cable News viewer and hope that Dennis gets his serious, down-to-earth side presented. I hope that the truthe wins out and gets the major coverage that it's long due.

Does anyone know for sure whether Perez has turned over the glasses or not? CFarmer at OPPORD told her to put a message on the board when she had....and as far as I know she hasn't posted. Her original posts on OPPORD were interesting in that she claimed she had no knowledge who made the hood, but no wait, now at the press conference.....she made it.

I could go on but I must restrain myself! Anyway, just interested if anyone knows for sure about the glasses?

Perez aka Gutsygal did turn the glasses in to LE.
Perez did not make the hood, she only made the circle & cross symbol on a separate piece of fabric that was added into the finished product later.

Link, What is your source for all of this information?

On Nov 28th DP posted on the OPPORD board, when asked if she had ever seen the hood.............
"Yes, I saw it on several occasions. I don't know who sewed it, but Zodiac sewed the crude embroidery of the cross hair symbol"

Now I may be wrong, I will have to go back and check the video, but I could've sworn she stated at the press conference that she had made it. That's the trouble, her story changes all the time.

As of last Weds. when Chris Pickel released the follow up to the FBI taking a look at my findings she indicated that to that date DP had not turned over any evidence to anyone at SFPD and she verified this.

Excellent points, and thanks for the verification of ALA. I remember watching the KTVU Channel 2 interview with ALA back in the 90s and thinking, "That chubby putz? Zodiac? No way!"

I walked over to The Chronicle from work at noon on the 29th to see this family member and hear the announcement. Frankly, the "press conference" should have been held at a comedy club with a $15 minimum. At least we would have gotten a drink with our laughs. Needless to say, I was very disappointed, but what can you expect when an El-Lay PR firm puts out a "press release"?

Why anyone even gave this story an iota of credence is beyond me...(and shame on me for even discussing it). Crawl back under your rock, DP, and stop wasting everyone's time. And RIP, ALA, lots of us know you weren't capable of being Z.

averyJ, I grew up here in San Francisco Bay Area, lived in SF but had relations up in Napa. Because of all the drugs, protests, etc, in SF my parents wanted their girls to grow up/go to school in North Bay such as Napa. House on Alvarado St, SF was put up for sale summer 1971, whole family moved to Napa but my father moved back to San Francisco in a whole different neighborhood while us girls stayed with relatives. In the early 1970s, we would stay with friends in Vallejo and there was never one peep, not one iota of a rumor that there was a child molester living there. It was a great place to be a kid, parents looked out for each others kids. Adults were trying to keep the older teens out of drugs. So, those memories combined with what I know about old radio reports from KFRC/KYA (they kept describing young people as Z), well, I just know in my heart that Mr Allen wasn't Z and have trouble with believing that he was actually a child molester. AND convictions get overturned alot. I do understand that his actions with the little kids were considered inappropriate and unprofessional manner but that doesn't constitute molestation for me.

Now, if he had a bullwhip in the kids coatroom, and used a paddle...oh, well, LOL I won't go there.....RIP Mr. Allen. I believe your day of complete exhoneration is finally, coming.

Has anyone ever embroidered before? It is one of the most daunting of tasks, I myself find a great challenge in it. As for a seven year old would have never been able to do it. Well, I have spent the last 9 years in the school system with my children and their classmates. I attend all room parties and field trips I can. Needlees to say I considered getting reference sample of seven year olds writing from various children to prove that no one at that age could execute the most perfectly written letter ever, "The Belli Letter." Not to mention without lines on the paper for guidance. Maybe I just will to add to my library!

sweetcheeks, Excellent points! I was sewing by the time I was 8? My mothers cousin taught me how to sew and crochet, knit, too. But could not be that detailed. I still have the old thumbelina doll that I repaired numerous times and it does look like a kid did it, not professional looking at all! Writing, well, thinking back, I agree that it is hard to keep within the lines or write like you had lined paper, so, again, very good points.
